Patti Smith: the punk poet

The singer who signs one of the most important folk-rock ballads in history, ‘Because The Night’, is known for her androgynous figure and rebellious appearance. Her combative attitude throughout the 70s and 80s sounded like the rhythm of her underground music, with songs like ‘Gloria’ or ‘People have the power’. Born in Chicago in 1946, the singer formed the Patti Smith Group in 1974 and it was then when they took the New York streets, mixing love and heartbreak, combative and pacifist lyrics, combining classic rock and punk.

Apart from dedicating herself to music, Patti has also popularized her writing, with books like ‘We were children’ or ‘The year of the monkey’. In addition, she is also considered a visual artist and a poet-activist, fighter and controversial character, thus influencing many artists and singers both from her time and later on. Her androgynous style combines femininity with punk vibes, which is what we design and dream of at Yolancris. She is one of the inspiring muses of the brand’s creative director, Yolanda Perez, who always has her songs and her style in mind to create the collections.
